i have a few questions on the mechanics of a black hawk STYLE of helicopter?
how often do you have to oil both sets of rotors?
how often do you have to change the oil in both of the engines, if it is a twin engine model?
how many gallons of gas does the fuel tank hold?
how far can the helicopter carry 5,000 pounds of cargo, on a full tank of gas?
The basic specs and performance information can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikorsky_S-70#S-70. Even better information is here: http://www.dfeeler.com/forecastinc/sampledocs/MilitaryAircraft/Sikorsky.doc You’ll see that there aren’t any single-engine models of the Blackhawk. Standard fuel is 360 gallons (You Can add external tanks) and the range is about 250 miles. With full fuel in the standard tanks its maximum useful load is around 8,000#, less crew, baggage and equipment. Maximum range with external tanks is 1150 miles, but the useful load is reduced to about $3,200#, less crew, baggage and equipment With 5,000# of cargo the fuel range with legal reserve is around 500 miles. You’ll also discover in the above document that the rotor hub requires no lubrication.
I see from your other questions that you are fantasizing about owning a helicopter. Even if you had the $11 to $20 million needed to buy an H-60 / S-70, as a civilian aircraft it has not been highly successful due to operating costs and maintenance issues. As a personal helicopter it would be a lot less practical to own compared to other machines of similar design. The operating cost is about $1,300 per hour, not including maintenance or maintenance reserve, insurance, storage and other costs.
Don’t forget to say thanks. You could have looked it up yourself.
